Scholarships

The Enlisted Association of the National Guard of Tennessee awards six academic scholarships and one vocational-technical scholarship annually. These scholarships are designed to enhance the educational opportunities for members of the Enlisted Association and their dependents. These scholarships are awarded as directed by the Scholarship Committee, representing the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of Tennessee. The president appoints the committee chairman, with committee members coming from all designated areas represented in the state. Scholarships awarded are paid directly to the College or University of the recipient's choice once enrollment is confirmed.

Eligibility:

An applicant must be a member of the Tennessee National Guard and a member in good standing with EANGTN or be the dependent son, daughter, or spouse of a member in good standing in the association. Each applicant must inform the committee by letter with specific facts as to his/her desire to continue his/her education and why financial assistance is required. Applicants are also required to submit their letters of recommendation verifying the application and giving general personal traits. Applicants must have achieved above average academic standing in high school and/or college. Applicants must have participated in school programs, student activities and civic activities. The committee selection is based on the merits of the application. The committee reviews applications by number, not name.

Types of Scholarships:

Six $1,000.00 scholarships are awarded to students pursuing higher education at academic institutions. Membership dues and donations originally funded the scholarship fund. Each of these scholarships is now funded by the sale of advertising in this program. The National Guard Association of Tennessee (NGAT) entered into an agreement with EANGTN to fund scholarships of both associations in 1985. USAA funds an additional $1,000.00 academic scholarship. In addition to these six scholarships, the EANGTN Scholarship Committee will administer the "Sergeant Major James H. Hester $500.00 Technical Scholarship". This scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a vocational-technical career.
